About the Event
"Sacred Music: An Historic Journey Through Catholic Hymns" is a six week session of learning the history of the sacred music we sing at mass, the reasons we sing them, and learning some of the most prominent and well-known hymns. This program was written and designed by Timothy Boisvert, and specifically created for the learning experience of anyone who desires to know more about Sacred Music. Each session is a separate learning experience, and there are no prior requirements for singing or reading music to understand and participate in each session. The first session begins with the time of David and Christ, and leads into the early beginnings of the written music of the Church, Gregorian Chant. We will learn the earliest sacred melodies of the Church, and see how they are applied to the hymns we sing today. Each session will have a presentation that is accompanied by the learning and singing of sacred hymns. Historical figures important to the formation of sacred music, as well as their styles and inspirations will be presented. Each participant will receive a binder to fill with information from each session attended, as well as access to that week's slides and music examples.
